There are a lot of books by Robert Sheckley available as ebooks
from the Gutenberg Project. Rather than downloading them all, I'd
like to know, what are his best books, in your opinion?

I can find only one longer text; the other dozen or so entries are
short stories from Galaxy etc.

I'd start with the short stories. Or with Fritz Leiber's excellent
satire /The Creature from Cleveland Depths/.

They are mostly short stories and not very large files so downloading them
all won't take long.

Of the ones there, "Bad Medicine" is a story I read a long time ago that
was memorable enough to recognise it from the title alone. The stories are
far from being his best work, and the better work is still in copyright.

More people read rec.arts.sf.written. I'd suggest asking there.

Having had a quick scan along my book shelf, I'd recommend the
following:

Immortality Inc. - this is a "must read" Sheckley story, one of the
great novels of science fiction.

The Status Civilisation - not bad, but not one of his best.

Journey beyond Tomorrow - I read it as a teenager and the story stuck
with me. I had a heck of a job finding a copy.

Dimension of Miracles - Another great book and IMO it was plagiarised by
Douglas Adams for "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Adams denied
it, I say "meh", the stories are so similar and DoM was printed a decade
before Adams' story.

Of these only The Status Civilisation is available as an ebook.
